I am sure we have all encountered flogs before without even knowing. Anytime you go on myspace or facebook, and you come across pages claiming to be various celebrities, most of the entries are fake. Now i am sure, celebrities do actually have real accounts, but i doubt the public can see them. I know i have visited some of these flogs that claim to be the real deal, and i just find them to be so pathetic and a waste of time. To sit around creating, and updating accounts pretending to be someone else is just sad. The thing that gets me though, is not the people who check out these pages and think they are legit, but i always wonder about the people who created them. Some of the entries the "celebrities" write are so in-depth that you wonder if these people realize it is not actually there lives when they update it daily. People might not realize the flog is fake, but i think the bigger problem s the account creators are trying to live through someone else, and are able to do it because they are sitting behind a computer.

I found this post very entertaining, i did not even know what a flog was until this class, and i am pretty sure we did not get all of the "definitions" in class. The whole flogging concept is one that i just could not understand why people would ever make one, or waste there time with it. I guess i did not realize i use various types of flogs all the time. Urban dictionary i guess would be considered a flog, since it is people posting "fictional" definitions. I also check out college humor from time to time, and i can see how you made the connection of it being a flog as well. I guess i should give flogs another chance and not dismiss the whole concept completely, otherwise i could be considered a hypocrite since i use them without and i never even realized.

I also read all the time on the internet, mostly just for leisure, sometimes with no specific purpose but to just waste some time. Although i do agree with the statements made concerning internet usage actually reading, i do not agree with the fact that the book will become less popular. No matter how many hours i spend reading on the internet, i still turn to a book if i feel like actually reading and getting caught up in a great story. People i think will continue to read novels in the book form, i actually think it would ruin the effect of a good book if it was read on a computer screen. The thrill of turning the page, to find out what is going to happen next, just is not the same as hitting the mouse to scroll your computer screen down a bit more, to see more of the text. Internet reading although it can be leisurely i do not think should go in the same category as a book.I do not think there will ever be a time now or in the future that i go to the beach, and bring my laptop instead of the t hot novel. If anything the book can never truly die based on that fact alone, laptops/electronics and the beach do not mix well.

I had the same frustrations. It was difficult imagining yourself in a room and virtually moving around with only keyboard commands. After a while I was just stuck in a room and gave up. I liked the thought of the game thought I just think it could have been made a little more simple than it was made to be.

When Professor Byrne said we would be exploring the MOO, I had no idea what we would be doing. It was kind of hard to get used to at first but it wasn't all that bad after you got the hang of the commands. I know if my group had more time our room would've turned out really good.

I never noticed how much people actually blog. Before this class I definitely thought that no one posted day to day things about their lives before, but I guess people took it to another level with flogging and taking on a new identity.

I agree with you. I never thought reading things online were considered reading for leisure. I guess it makes sense that since technology is changing so will some of the ways we normally do things.

I feel that interactive fiction "games" are a lot more forms of literature than they are games. I think that the game label simply creates expectations that can not be reached while playing these literature exercises. People going into these exercises having expectations of todays video games, which is what I think most people think of when they hear the word game no a days, will not be able to fully appreciate what the literature games are. They are actually pretty fun once you get the hang of them, and can create senses of immersion, but definitely not as great as current video games accomplish.

On the topic of immersion and that it had always been in literature: I definitely agree with this statement 100% because really without the concept of immersion in literature, there would be no progression, and no "entertainment" found in reading. Without out this people would not be as interested and nothing would seem to move on. Immersion is very important in literature, because really if no one is interested in a topic, than they will not want to go any further with it.

I to feel that blogging is the new future of diaries. I mean people need ways to get things out, and what better way than on the internet so that others can read and become interested in others. Although I am no blogger myself, I know people that really find it as a way to communicate, since they find more traditional ways of communication a little more difficult. Overall, I think people that blog are really just writing forms of online diaries, and that it really helps them get through things.
